Lone Wolf Productions has been very lucky this year. Now even more so that we have had the chance to work with Kurt Sorge on his section for the site. As you know he is an extremely famous rider and because of this, he is always very busy. However, Kurt being the professional he is, said he would participate in the project on top of all his other responsibilities. I admit, I thought that the section might suffer a little, but Kurt proved me wrong!

The original idea for Kurt’s section was to shoot some footage early in the year at Brad Stewart’s yard; a place Kurt Sorge often frequents during his trips to Kamloops. After that Kurt was heading to France to compete at Chatel, but as Robert Burns said “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” and unfortunately that is exactly what happened. Kurt had a very strange and uncharacteristic mystery crash which broke his collar bone and effectively ended his trip to France. On top of that, being the perfectionist that he is, Kurt was not happy with the quality of footage that he got in France before the injury and opted to scrap all of it. At this point the section was on hold and I was not certain if it would even get finished this season due to the timing of the injury. Kurt was also forced to for fit from most of his competitions throughout the season while he healed up.

Little did I know, Kurt had no intention of taking this set back lying down. I began hearing whispers that he was riding trails back in his home town of Nelson, and before I knew it Kurt was back in Kamloops with a truck full of bikes. We sat down for dinner one night, and decided we were going to ride and shoot at Sun Peaks. Kurt told me that night that he was “at about 80%” of his normal riding ability which concerned me a little. The next day we headed up to the hill to ride and if that was Kurt riding at 80% then everyone had better watch out at the Red Bull Rampage this year because he was on fire. It takes a lot for people to come back from injury, and you can certainly tell Kurt is a true professional rider because he came out of the gate charging. It really speaks to his character that when he faces adversity and what seem to be terrible situations, he is able to rise to the occasion and overcome them. I believe that this same attitude translates into his riding which is why he is able to ride what seems to be the impossible and jump the unimaginable.

Needless to say, Kurt finished his section, and in only one day I might add! We here at www.lonewolfproductions.ca would like to thank Kurt for working on this project, and we hope we can work with him again in the near future. Best of luck at the Red Bull Rampage this year buddy! More props go out to Karl Heldt, Florian Feise, our editor and photographer for this section.
